Opening in 2013, Pikaia Lodge aims to offer a new land-based tourism model for the Galapagos; a stunning alternative to the normal yacht and cruise ship tours around the archipelago.
The lodge has been designed from inception to redefine the concept of a luxury eco-lodge. Luxury means not opulence, but the highest level of service and comfort for our guests.
Environmental sustainability and carbon-neutral operation is an intrinsic aspect of the eco-lodge philosophy. Pikaia Lodge has been designed, is being built and will be equipped according to the highest environmental specifications established by the LEED Certification program from the US Green Building Council. Once Pikaia Lodge’s construction phase is finished, our mission is to hold the highly-esteemed “LEED Platinum” certification.
The Location
The lodge’s strategic location on the central island of Santa Cruz means comfortable access via short day cruises on a private luxury yacht, to some of the best of the Galapagos Park visitor sites.
The main Pikaia Lodge building will perch on a plateau on the craters of an extinct volcano. Nestled amongst its slopes will be the rooms and suites; 14 rooms upon opening and a total of 28 after the second construction phase. At 450 meters above sea level, the lodge will sit on 31 hectares of private land in a transition zone between the sunny arid savannah and the tropical mist forest of the highlands. This location offers one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Galapagos: a 270 degree view of the infinite Pacific Ocean with nearby islands as a backdrop – a
great scenic destination in itself.
The Explorations
Pikaia will offer a unique lodge/day trip/lodge combination on our private 100 foot oceangoing cruise yacht, the M/V Pikaia I. It will be the only such vessel in the Galapagos, offering a luxurious, safe and relaxing day tour experience to some of he best National Park visitor sites and beaches. Our other private vessel, the 35 foot Pikaia II, is fully-equipped for half-day marine tours around Santa Cruz Island, included in the land programs of the exploration packages.
